I saw a thread with several middle-aged ex-military. One guy said he was crying and hitting his steering wheel in anger over Trump and Ukraine. Numerous "was this what we fought for?!!" comments. I didn't have the heart to say we actually lost Afghanistan and arguably we haven't fought a defensive war since 1812.
The reality is we are in a painful downscaling of a lot of sunk costs, policy and institutions that never should have been allowed to advance as far as they have. Among other root causes has been the US Congress's failure to govern on behalf of the American people.

The "west" is fuckin' sick. Uncontrolled financial capitalism DESTROYED the "west" and hollowed it out - not only materially and economically - but morally, as well. The twisted "tech bros" are just the modern manifestation of robber barons but without the industrial base and solid, developing working classes behind them.
